Age 25 – 2002 – growing up!!
Posted by admin in Past Halloweens
Wow, what a year of change this has been. Let’s see… I became a webmaster, started travelling lots of meeting tons of interesting people and making money!! yay!! This year I went down to Los Angeles and was there for a couple weeks but scheduled to return a few days before Halloween. It was a BIG step for me because as you recall, a couple years ago when I was away on the Island for October I felt sad
Not in LA though! I was so busy and it was so sunny there, it didn’t even feel like October. That was very foreign to me & didn’t know what to make of it. The brisk crisp air combined with the smell of burning stuff made the perfect Pacific Northwest autumn smell which I equated directly with halloween. Now I didn’t have that… and it was hot. That is just too weird. I was staying with a guy, Andrew, in the Valley and we did some fun Halloweeny stuff. We went downtown to Hollywood Blvd and went to some really silly haunted house experience… I have to use that word to describe this since
1. it was in a commercial building, in the middle of a mini mall complex
2. the employees were so not into it and way too cool for school
HE also scored free tickets to Six Flags but we didn’t even decide to go one day until later in the afternoon. By the time we drove there it was almost dinner time & the haunted houses were open!! It was my FIRST EVER big commercial HH, like the ones I’ve been reading about online & in Fangoria for years. It was very overwhelming… it was dark, there were blinky lights… and fog machines. The line ups for ALL the HH’s were retardedly long, like up to 45 minutes and then when you go through it just seems so fast. There was an alien type HH with loud rock music and disections & super gory that stuck out in my mind. There were SO MANY people going in through the attraction with you that it took away any kind of creepiness or tension, since the buffer is about 8 people deep from you. It was more like looking at fancy decorations. I’m not complaining, I’m just saying I would’ve had a hella better time if the lines were shorter & they only let X amount of people through at a time. Of course those 2 things contradict eachother!! We didn’t have a chance to go on any rides since most of the time was spent in waiting lines.
I was going to miss most of the real Halloween parties & inudstry events by going home less than a week b4 the big day, but thats OK. I’d rather be home for all that. A guy I was having a thing with also asked me to go on a Mexican vacation but I was like ehhhhh…. I’m going to stay home. lol.
Halloween day… again… I am not sure what I did but I’m sure it consisted of getting last minute stuff, driving around and shopping. There possibly could have been coffee at Lougheed. I don’t know what I’m rambling about… late afternoon I went to Audreys place (she was living off 41st and Cambie, block away from Oakridge Mall) and we went for Pho. Then we took her daughter to check out the Halloweeny events at the mall. They had trick or treating with the usual crappy 1 lolipop rule. We came back & some other people came over. Audrey stayed home to pass out candy while we went trick or treating around the area…. It’s so screwed up because I can’t remember if I was a zombie or burn victim or what!?! I’m sure I used the ole latex with tissue, slap on some geletin & let’s call it a day trick, as I normally do. We got back & checked out our candy score. I took off my makeup and it was time to meet Steve M downtown for…
Trailer Trash night at the Purple Onion in Gastown!!! It was a weekly event but since it was Halloween, it was packed & everyone really dressed up! I didn’t do much, just wore an 80′s style mid-driff baring off the shoulder top but Steve had on tight jeans, red plaid vest, a trucker cap with a blonde wig underneath…. and this is NOT a stretch for him… he just pulled this stuff out of his closet. It’s ok, he grew up in Terrace.  The music rocked, lots of hair band metal with some 80′s pop thrown in and lots of mullets. A friend from wrestling was there looking hott… basically there was a lot of hot guys there in tight jeans and it was an excellent night!
